The Department of Digital Humanities and Social Studies would like to invite you to the following talk in our DH Colloquium:

Markus Tischner: »From prompt engineering workflows to custom gpts. Introduction and live development«

Abstract:

Using Custom GPTs as Co-Creators in Cultural Geography Research

Generative AI is not just a tool. It can be a creative partner. Custom GPTs, which can be configured without any coding, allow researchers to build their own AI collaborators. These assistants can help you explore qualitative data, simulate stakeholder perspectives, or even prototype early research ideas.

In this colloquium, we’ll explore how Custom GPTs can be used as practical co-creators in the research process. The session will be hands-on and interactive. We’ll start with several live demonstrations of Custom GPTs tailored to research in cultural geography. Besides the live demo, you will learn how they were built.

In the second part, we’ll open the floor for discussion. Bring your own research ideas, and let’s brainstorm how Custom GPTs might support them. If there’s interest (and time), we’ll collaboratively build a prototype GPT live, based on a challenge or use case from the audience.

About the Speaker:

Markus Tischner is a seasoned filmmaker, learning expert, and trainer with a filmmaking career spanning over more than 15 years since 2008. Specializing in educational media and science communication films, he brings knowledge to life.

Besides his freelance work, Markus heads media production at the Competence Centre Education at Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), Germany. Beyond creating educational and scientific media, he teaches on media production in the master's program "Learning Design" and trains university staff in science communication and creation of educational media.

Since 2022, he has been deeply engaged with the use of generative AI in media production and learning design in higher education. As an early adopter, user, and trainer of AI technologies, he continuously explores new potentials for teaching and learning—always with a critical awareness of both opportunities and challenges.

With a background in geography, focusing on soil geography and high mountain ecology, alongside geology and biology, Markus has a deep understanding of scientific topics. With his experience as journalist, he excels at making them accessible and engaging for the targeted audience.
