We are delighted to announce that Dr. Katrin Rohrbacher has received an FAU Emerging Talents Initiative (FAU ETI) grant for her new project, Nature in Motion: A Computational Study of Environmental Representation in Travel Writing. Travelogues describe movement through space, landscape and weather, and the traveller’s experience of them. They therefore offer a particularly revealing window onto historical ideas of nature. Using computational methods, the project traces how German-language travel accounts have portrayed nature over time. The grant supports this emerging research and opens up new opportunities to investigate environmental representation at scale. Stay tuned for updates on the project in the coming months.
