The DHSS at the Long Night of Sciences 2023

This year, the Department Digital Humanities and Social Studies takes part in the Long Night of Sciences again.

On October 21, 2023, from 5pm to 12am, the DHSS hosts several events at the Orangerie, situated in the beautiful “Schlossgarten”. Every hour, different talks will give an insight into current topics within the Digital Humanities. Visitors can also explore exciting projects and results on their own.

Computational Humanities
Researchers from the Pattern Recognition Chair present current interactive research projects, including tools for imitating handwriting and searching for historical “Doppelgänger”.

The Behaim-Globe Portal
In a joint research project, researchers from the FAU and the Germanische Nationalmuseum (GNM) have collected various materials about the oldest preserved terrestrial globe. The digital portal invites to explore these research results.

Orangerie digital
How did the Orangerie look like, when it was used as an exhibition space for paintings from the Renaissance and Baroque period? The “Orangerie digital” enables to experience the historical Organgerie in a virtual space.
